The Georgian Film Festival
The Brief
For the TEA CUP Film Festival, Julian and Jonas Bachmann created a distinctive visual identity – from logos and posters to festival programs and on-site design.
Behind the festival are Tea Robakidze-Brown and Ketevan Krause from Munich, two passionate cultural organizers and longtime friends of ours.
Their idea: bring Georgian cinema to Germany, open up new perspectives, and connect people through art and film.
Our mission was to give this deeply personal initiative a visual identity of its own – charming, confident, and crafted with a love for the little details.
The Design
A cupful of cinema. It all started with a playful take on the name TEA CUP: a handful of expressive symbols, distinctive typography, and a visual language that balances cinematic artistry with a wink of humor.
Black, white, gold, and an unexpected splash of red define the look. Film strips, illustrative elements, and the distinctive beauty of Georgian lettering became recurring design motifs.
From oversized festival posters to carefully composed film programs, we created a flexible identity full of character, combining clarity with a spirit of experimentation.
The Context
Georgia has a rich cinematic tradition and a turbulent history. Its films tell stories of freedom, social change, identity, and the contradictions of human life – often poetic, unconventional, and full of unexpected humor.
In 2017, TEA CUP presented “Georgian Film Today” at Munich’s Monopol cinema and Berlin’s Babylon.
Screenings turned into encounters, conversations, and cultural friendships. The festival continued to evolve, bringing new Georgian stories to German screens.
For us, TEA CUP is more than a design project. It’s a wonderful example of how friendship, passion, and a simple idea can grow into a genuine cultural exchange.
